EMR : electronic medical record
Developed by Swiss practitioners and based on open source internet technologies, emed® is the only online electronic medical record that improves the daily practice and productivity of doctors thanks to an advanced data structure.
The emed® project and ICT development started in 2006 thanks to a combination of circumstances.
The entire project was privately funded until 2013, when emedSwiss SA was created and subsequently its
capital was increased in order to commercialize the emed® program.
For a long time, no one believed that we could achieve this ambitious project in such a complex field!

None of the solutions currently available in the market offers an increase in productivity or real benefits for doctors and the proposed ICT tools are too cumbersome.
After successive failures, doctors no longer believe in the public authorities or in the industries to propose better solutions than medical records on paper.
The solution can only derive from doctors. Intelligent digitization of the care process is the only way forward in order to exit from the current deadlock.

The Patient service allows the patients and other service providers to have an easy, selective and confidential access to a subset of the medical record defined by the patient and the referring physician.
This access to the record by the patient improves the medical follow-up of different care providers and promotes preventive medicine. It is part of the "empowerment" concept, where the patient is an active participant in the care process, as increasingly desired by the population.

After over 8 years of development financed privately, the emedswiss corporation, whose registered seat is in Fribourg, started commercializing the emed® online electronic medical record in Switzerland, in partnership with the corporations HIN, Abacus, Ofac, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and Everial.
For this commercialization at the Swiss level, emedswiss has finalized a fundraising with multiple investors : Swiss doctors, private investors and the canton of Fribourg (through "Capital Risque Fribourg").
The entire initiative of the project is based on a « bottom up » approach conceived from the medical consultation – the interaction between the patient and the doctor representing the starting point of the entire care process and future health costs in order to increase productivity within the office and the quality of medical care which should imperatively go through a structuring of medical data and the systematization of the business process similarly to what has been done in other professions.
The emed® program clearly distinguishes itself from existing programs by :
This program features a simple and functional interface without constraint and with a productivity increase both for the doctor and the nurse.
The reform of the Swiss healthcare system must imperatively go through an intelligent digitizing of the care process, conforming to the eHealth strategy. All of this in a « bottom up » approach (and not « top down » which is essentially doomed to failure) in which doctors should be completely mobilized. In order to raise their awareness to this project, it is therefore crucial to propose a simple and efficient computerized tool which significantly increases their productivity instead of diminishing it as it is the case with the tools they have experienced up to now..
It is worth knowing that the starting point of any eHealth project consists in creating medical data and in structuring them in an easy way at the time of the medical consultation. An efficient coordination of healthcare is more and more necessary because of the increasing multi-morbidity in an aging population and cannot be conceived without a prior structuring of medical data as a necessary step for direct, quick and confidential sharing between healthcare providers.
The emed® program increases the value of the primary care doctor's role by creating mini networks centered on the treating generalist's shared electronic medical record or the internist's one around which will be integrated all the files of the specialists in charge of the patient in question.
The sharing of medical data amongst different doctors in charge of the same patient is done in a selective and confidential manner on the basis of the patient's authorization. In the emed® system, the patient also has access to important data in his file with the aim of empowering the patient and of establishing an optimal coordination of care.
Note that the Nurse Edition (in French and German), which corresponds to the electronic record for ambulatory nursing care, integrated in the doctor's file, has just been produced. This solution is currently the only one on the market to join the patient, nurse and doctor in a single medical record allowing for an optimal coordination of care.
Thanks to our analysis, to our developments carried out since 2006 and to an advanced and modular architecture, we are in a position to rapidly create a specific edition for any activity in the medical sector.
Considering the number of doctors from all over Switzerland involved in the innovative and ambitious emed® project, it can be seen as a major digital project of the Swiss medical community.
